FAQ's

Questions about the details of the trip? Here are the most frequently asked questions regarding a tornado tour.

WHAT IS REQUIRED BEFORE I GO ON THE TOUR?

Upon the arrival day (the day before the tour officially begins) we will have a safety meeting and orientation at the base hotel. This meeting is required to attend to go on the tour. During this meeting we will go over the Liability Waiver and the 2024 Prairie Tours Tour Agreement that you will be emailed and can look over before the tour begins. You have the right to have the waiver looked over by legal counsel beforehand if so desired. You will be required to sign the waiver and Tour Agreement at the end of the meeting before you can join the tour the following day. We also highly recommend that you consult with your  healthcare provider to make sure that you are fit and healthy to go on the tour.

HOW SAFE IS THIS?

This tour includes many risks that can be storm related or just the everyday risks of driving or normal everyday hazards. Our very experienced storm chasers and guides have a track record of putting their team in the best and closest location possible for viewing storms and tornadoes safely. All guests will be required to read and sign the liability waiver before the tour officially begins. The waiver will be available for guests upon request or when booking is complete.

*More details about this are on the terms and conditions page to read and accept before booking.

HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL BE ON THE TOUR?

There will be 6 guests total on the tour, along with one or two drivers. We want to have each tour group small, making the tour more personable. This gives the opportunity for a better learning experience for our guests, not just with the storms, but with the meteorologist and professional storm chaser themselves. This will also leave room in between each guest for photography and video gear to have on hand during the chase!

WHERE WILL WE BE STAYING?

Upon arrival day there, will be a base hotel room booked near the airport in the arrival and departure city (of either Oklahoma City, OK or Denver, Colorado) of your tour. From there you can take a hotel provided shuttle and check in under the reservation booked for the tour. Once the tour begins the next day, a hotel will be booked according to the plans of the trip. We will do our best to get a 3 star (or higher)  hotel each night for the comfort of the guests depending on area and availability.

HOW WILL WE MANAGE MEALS?

We will try to stay at hotels that serve complimentary breakfasts. If we stay at a hotel that does not serve breakfast, we will do our best to stop somewhere for food. For lunch, we will stop somewhere on the road for a quick meal, but if we are on tight schedule to make it to a storm we will plan ahead to stop and let you get snacks. For dinner, fast food may be the only option, but when possible, we will try to have a sit down meal to relax.

WHAT ABOUT BATHROOM BREAKS?

We will try to stop when time allows. There will be days that we are on a very tight schedule and cannot afford to make unnecessary making stops. Minutes can be the difference between seeing tornadoes and not. We want you to get the full experience on our tours, so make those breaks count.

HOW MUCH SHOULD I PACK?

Pack accordingly to the days you will be on tour. Space will be limited, so we ask that you keep your luggage to "carry on" flight regulations. Your bag should be 50 LBS (22.67 KGS) or less. You can have a small bag for photography and video gear, a hoodie, snacks, and medications. This bag should be small enough to fit underneath your seat. You may have the opportunity to do laundry at the hotel, but be prepared in case there isn't, especially on the longer tours. Luggage will be stored in the back of the vehicle, so make sure that you have anything you want on hand in your small carry on. We can work with guests that might be staying longer in the states and need extra storage.

*More details about this will be in the packet sent to your email with booking confirmation

WHAT ARE THE CHANCES OF SEEING A TORNADO?

We cannot guarantee you will see a tornadoes or storms but depending on the tour that you book, could determine the chances of seeing storms and tornadoes. The peak months are April, May, and June, according to statistics, but each tour still has a good chance with our experienced storm chasers. If there are no storms within a reasonable distance we will have a group vote for which local attraction or National Park to visit.

WHAT ABOUT DEPOSITS AND REFUNDS?

Deposits are nonrefundable because it covers business expenses such as insurance, office, tour booking, vehicle purchase and other related expenses. If you do not agree to sign the terms and conditions of the tour before the tour begins, you will only be refunded for the amount minus the deposit.  However, if we can resell your vacated spot, you would be given a refund, less the nonrefundable deposit. Once the waiver has been signed, we do not refund any payment, including the deposit. Under very special circumstances, we may allow some tour fees to be rolled over to a different tour time.
